The 3500 Transient Data Interface Module (TDI) is the interface between the 3500 monitoring system
and the GE Bentley Nevada System1 * mechanical management software. The TDI module combines
the 3500/20 framework interface module with a communication processor with data acquisition capabilities,
such as the functionality of TDXnet.
TDI runs in the RIM slot of the 3500 framework and is used in conjunction with M-series monitors
(3500/40M, 3500/42M, etc.) to continuously collect steady-state and transient waveform data, which is
transmitted to the host software via Ethernet. TDI has standard static data acquisition capabilities, but can
also acquire transient or dynamic data using optional channel enabled disks. Compared with previous
communication processors, TDI has several other improvements besides integrating the functions of the
communication processor into the 3500 framework. Although TDI provides some general functionality for
the entire framework, it is not a component of critical monitoring channels and does not affect the correct
and regular operation of the entire monitoring system. Each 3500 framework requires one TDI or RIM. TDI
only occupies one slot in the framework and must be located in the first slot (adjacent to the power module).
For Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) applications, the 3500 system requires TDI in TMR form. In addition to
all the functions of standard TDI, TMR TDI also has a "monitor channel comparison" function. By selecting the
installation function of the monitor option, the 3500TMR configuration executes the monitoring voting function.
In this way, TMR TDI continuously compares the outputs of three redundant monitors. If TDI detects that the
output information of one monitor is different from the other two monitors (within the configured percentage),
it will issue an error indication to the monitor and add an event to the system event list.
